Key Mistakes Common in Restaurant Marketing

Spread the love

Worried about the declining revenue of your restaurant? Don’t know what is going wrong?  Thinking of ways to attract more customers? Well, these questions can baffle the mind of any restaurant manager. These problems can arise due to a variety of reasons. However, the problem might be with the methods used for marketing. Some of the mistakes that you might be making while devising your marketing strategy are as follows:

Don’t know who you are targeting

Knowing the scope and target of your business venture is highly imperative for its success. If you think that you can facilitate every portion of the population, then you are gravely mistaken. Compromises have to be made. To know your target, you need to know about yourself and your business motto. Then, you need to formalize the specifications of the customer that you should be targeting. Know your market, area, beliefs, culture and wealth of the population.

Don’t understand your competition

If you don’t know what you are up against then how can you counter it? You need to know about your rivals before you make your marketing plan. See, how much market each of your competitor shares. Visit their restaurants once or twice. See their setup, their menu, service, prices and taste their food. See what customers are lacking. Comprehend how you can offer something different?

Don’t have a direction

If you don’t have motto or mission statement, then it is over before it even started. Figuring out the plan and methodology comes after your motto. If you don’t have a clear direction then, you are likely to fail. Even if you provide quality service, you will suffer in the long run.

Failing to retain customers

Do visitors not return once they leave your door? Well, that can be a big problem, as about half of the business of a restaurant depends on its old customers. You need to know about your customers. What they like and what they don’t. Provide them with quality food, service, environment and moderate prices.

Don’t know which social platform to use

With so many modes of marketing available online, it is difficult to choose the starting point. You can go for TV commercials, poster, vouchers, text messages or other social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. To get best results you need to know the latest trends and exploit them.

Lacking uniqueness

You are sticking to conventional recipes and menus. If you are not trying something new, then probably your customers will get bored and will look elsewhere for different things. Therefore, you need to keep switching menus, tweaking your recipes, combining menus into deals, special dinner nights, etc. to always keep your customers guessing.

You are in a rush

You have just started your business, or a short time has passed, and you want early success. The road to success is not easy, and it certainly can’t be completed overnight. You need to have patience. Give yourself some time. Let your business to settle in. Let your marketing strategy work. Don’t rush things. Often an efficient marketing strategy takes weeks and sometimes months to produce results.
